Rockville Part Deux!

Yup. Its that time of year again. My concert season was kicked off with Family Force 5's Rise Up tour (EPIC!)  but thats not what we're here to talk about, is it? No, children, its Welcome to Rockville! The first band worth mentioning (IMHO) was Lacuna Coil. Not my favorite by far but pretty awesome. Me and Bones knew where we needed to be though. Main stage. Where we then planted ourselves and didn't move.

Our faces were melted off by serious metal from Trivium. Holy crap. Yea. I'm not a huge metal fan... but that might change cause they were sick! (Also the bassist was hot. Just sayin'.) Next up was P.O.D.... And I could not have cared less. Blah. Bones' brother was pretty psyched but.. meh. Really we were just anxiously awaiting Halestorm. And they did not disappoint! Their badassery punched me in the face and I LOVED IT. (Not gonna lie.... I have a tiny girlcrush on Lzzy Hale. She's so just sickeningly fierce!) After my ears were blessed by Halestorm's sweet sounds of awesomeness, I thought to myself, how could this day get any better? (I should point out that it was now that someone (not pointing fingers.. Bro.) wanted to leave. Um.. WHAT!? After that crazy nonsense was slapped down) The universe finally answered, oh um effing Five Finger Death Punch could show up! OMG. My eyes almost popped outta my head due to the excessive amount of rock that was being delivered. I kinda wanted to storm the stage and climb Ivan Moody (the lead singer) but I didn't. (They would've thrown me out! Then I'd have missed the rest of the set. So instead I just thought about it.. alot.)

 Then it was time for what every female fan there that day was waiting for. Evanescence. Amy Lee owned that stage like it was her personal bitch.  She screamed, we screamed, everyone screamed and it was good. So so good. (P.S. Call Me When You're Sober is legit live.) I was so amped for Korn but... my ride was done. (Gasp! You want to leave? WHY!?) But they were finished. So we left. Before Korn. Sigh. Rockville is no doubt the only thing that could make me willingly spend that many hours in direct sunlight. Ever. Needless to say I can't wait til next year! ( And now for your viewing pleasure. A small taste of Evanescence.)

Why so Obsessed?

Ah. It's soooo nice to have a job again. Not because I have any great love of being part of the workforce. Heck nah. If I had my way I'd be independently wealthy but unfortunately I haven't hit the lotto.... Yet. No, its because I can buy all of the useless crap that I want! Yay for needless spending! Right now I seem to be fixated on K-Dramas, J-Dramas, and anime. So most of my purchases seem to lean in that direction. Manga, dramas, and anime, oh my! I'll keep our economy going one useless purchase at a time.

Skynet's Mama?

So.... am I the only one sorta freaked out by Hatsune Miku? For those of you who don't know, Hatsune Miku is a popstar in Japan. And she is also a cartoon. Now I know what you're thinking: why is this any weirder then say, Jem? Well Jem never actually performed live for her concerts, Hatsune preforms via projection. Also Jem had a voice actor. Hatsune doesn't, she has a Vocaloid 2. (And what pray tell is a Vocaloid 2, you ask?) It's a singing synthesizer application. Now are you seeing why she kinda freaks me out? Sure, she's cute now, but when the computers rise up... Well, they'll all be playing her songs. (Wanna see? Look here. ->)

Where Do I Go From Here?

I need suggestions. As I've said before, I have become ridiculously addicted to K-Dramas. Well now my addiction has grown to include Korean movies as well. And I need more! I'm looking for any quality Korean film. Comedy, action, horror, anything .Just give me a title! So far I've seen I'm a Cyborg But It's Okay, Baby and Me, Attack of the Pin-Up Boys, The Man From No-Where, I Saw The Devil, and My Little Bride. Help me out here people!

Adventures in *Con!

Dragon*Con called and I answered. My friends Bones, RJ and I drove up to ATL (have any of you been to Atlanta? The traffic there is insane!) on Thursday and just got back on Tuesday (home sweet sanity). And I'm very glad to be back. Don't get me wrong, I had an awesome time, but I ran out of cash on Saturday. (It was only the goodwill of my BFF Bones that kept me from starving.) This trip had only one goal for me: meet Elvira! (What? She's my childhood hero. I know, I know. What kind of kid's hero is Elvira? Mine!) Everything else was secondary. (Eating was one of those secondary things. It seemed to pale in comparison.)

Day one we went to a horror icons panel featuring  Robert Englund  (Freddy Krueger duh.), Lance Henriksen (of Pumpkinhead & Near Dark fame) and Tony Todd (from Candyman & the Final Destination movies. I have a photo here somewhere... ( <- Tony was hiding behind a podium so I don't have a pic of him. Sorry.) It was at this panel that I made friends with a black clad stranger and the Joker. (Obviously we were very close since I didn't get either of their names but whatever.) That's the beauty of the Con. Making nameless friends. So Black-Hoodie-Punk-Band-Alabamian and Hipster-Joker, here's to you.
We also caught alittle of Sylvester McCoy's panel (he's an old school Doctor Who and a hobbit in the upcoming The Hobbit movie). He was rather charming I must say. (Could've been because he has that adorable Scottish accent though.) After that RJ insisted we go to a Farscape panel. I do like me some Farscape but it was kind of hard to get excited about it without Ben Browder there. (No eyecandy = no happiness.) But Virginia Hey was there telling stories and answering questions so it was interesting.

The rest of the day was spent just wandering from hotel to hotel admiring costumes. (That may not sound like much but let me tell you, you're wrong. For a Floridian, hills are the devil, I come from a flat land! Ugh. ATL can keep it's friggin' hills. The whole damn place must be built on a mountain.) Anyway Stripper-Captain America might just have been my favorite costume. (Nothing says patriotism like a Cap helmet, shield and man-panties.) Sadly I didn't have time to snap a photo of him. (I might've been alittle preoccupied ogling his star-spangled panties.) Though I must say the Sailor Scouts I saw were a very close second. Those ladies get serious points for banking on my Sailor Moon nostalgia. Plus I was rocking my Tuxedo Mask tshirt when I ran into them, so they had to make my top five. (Should I post a picture of the ladies here?)

K-Dramas, Who Knew?

I've just reached a new level of boredom. And because of this, I've discovered a new love. Korean dramas. They combine three of my favorite things: melodrama, hot Asian men, and reading! (Subtitles! They kinda make the shows seem interactive.) (Ok. Not really. But I hate when people complain about subtitles.) It seems that most of the best K-dramas are based on manga and/or anime. (Which gives me an excuse to read more manga and watch more anime!) (Wait. Why is that an excuse? Uh... That's beside the point.) By far the best I've seen (so far) is Boys Over Flowers . Yes. The name is dumb. And honestly I have no idea how it relates to the storyline but nonetheless the show is epic. It's the usual story: Girl meets Boy, then Girl meets Other Boy, hates him on sight and later kicks him in the head, thus making Other Boy fall madly in love with Girl. Yeah, ya know, the usual. If you're like me, you'll be hooked. (Btw I <3 you Lee Min Ho!)
I also highly recommend Mischievous Kiss (ok, yes again the title is kinda dumb. But the show is totally cute. And as an added bonus one of the main actors from BOF, Kim Hyun Joong, stars.) and My Princess  (which was really cute too. It's kind of reminiscent of The Princess Diaries but without the Disney overtones.) I'm gonna bet because of my over use of  "cute" I've probably turned a lot of guys away. Sorry dudes but I feel like these shows are aimed at the ladies.
I feel I should warn you about the side effects of watching any of these dramas. Its developing a penchant for randomly busting out with some K-Pop. (Namely SS501. I blame Kim Hyun Joong for that. Not only is he seemingly in every cute K-drama, he's in a damn boyband. The man is off the charts in fangirl acquisition.) Anyway the next show on my list is City Hunter (also starring Lee Min Ho!) which is apparently more of an action then drama. So Yay for violence!

I Don't Believe It

I've just recently made a startling realization about myself. Deep breath. I like.... musicals. Now I know it might not seem like that big of a deal for a girl like myself to like musicals. But, I assure you, it is. On a regular basis I have stated (to pretty much anyone who would listen) how much I actively disliked musicals. They're total fluff. (Mind you, that's still true.) But I have to face the fact.... I dig it. How did I come to this moment, you ask? I looked at my movie collection. Simple. But shocking. There sat my own collection of musicals! Gasp! So I will now share with you their titles. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Which, really, that one isn't too shocking.) Cry Baby (If you had any notion of my great and abiding love of John Waters, then really this isn't a great shock to you.) Repo! The Genetic Opera (Come on. Death, gore, and Anthony Stewart Head. How could I not love it?) Grease (Shut up. I am a girl after all. It's in my DNA to like this movie. And Dirty Dancing, which isn't technically a musical but it should be.) Hairspray (Don't judge me. Its based a John Waters movie. So really it's not my fault that I like it.) The Phantom of the Opera (I've already outed myself as a Phantom Phan, this one holds no shame. Plus Gerard effing Butler. Hello.) Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog ( I make no excuses. That's just pure awesome right there.) Labyrinth (Three words. David Bowie codpiece. Mmhmm.)  The Nightmare Before Christmas & Corpse Bride (Because I love stop motion animation. And Tim Burton.) Sweeney Todd (Hmmm. I'm noticing a theme. Johnny Depp! I blame you, sir! You've done this to me!)
So now you see. And these are just the ones I own. I've seen many many more, some that may or may not have had Gidget or Frankie & Annette in the title. Sigh. Next thing ya know I'll be going to the theater. Shudder. (Call me Jeffie! We'll see Love Never Dies!)
